At this point Maruti has become a household name in the country with many cars such as the 800, the Swift, the Alto and the Omni quickly becoming a near constant in our cities. In 2016 Maruti Suzuki released a new entry into the hatchback market called the Ignis. The Ignis is a curious car when one looks at it the first time. It is in essence a hatchback, but it is camouflaged as a SUV with its square and upright stance with its styling emphasizing its wide body and more rugged features.
About Maruti Suzuki Ignis
The Ignis was created mainly to cater to the newer generation with its stylish wide and aggressive looks, especially since there is a sizeable crowd in India that likes SUV’s and SUV crossovers. The front end looks blocky with it clearly harking back to some of the older SUV models and with some modern aesthetic thrown in with the smooth lines on the headlights. This combined with the aggressive rear side giving the car a very unique look. The styling does add an advantage to the car over its competitors in the fact that the car has ample space to accommodate most adults without any fuss.
The Ignis comes in 4 variants and they are called the Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha which start at ₹ 4.79 lakh at the lower end and go all the way upto ₹ 7.14 lakh for the most premium version which is the automatic version of the Alpha.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Features
The paint job of the car can come in a range of customizable colors which include two tone options with Maruti Suzuki offering the iCreate option to customers for added customizability. While the Sigma variant does not get it, from the Delta variant and above the dashboard comes in a two-tone black and white dashboard. The Sigma to the Zeta get a music system while the Alpha gets a touch screen infotainment system.

The diesel engine is a 1.3-liter engine rated at 75 PS and produces 190 Nm of torque, the Ignis is one of the only diesel hatchbacks under ₹ 10 lakh and this gives it a good advantage, combine this with the ARAI rated mileage of 26.8 kmpl and this quickly becomes an excellent value for money.
